In this studio recording, Severin von Eckardstein offers a particularly multifaceted panorama of early German Romanticism. Around one of Robert Schumann's absolute masterpieces, the Kreisleriana (Op. 16, April 1838), a renewed declaration of love for the beloved Clara Wieck and a perfect synthesis of the composer's two faces, lyrical (Eusebius) and passionate (Florestan), the German pianist offers two less common works by two figures of the next generation, contemporaries of Brahms (1833-1897) and inspired by the great geniuses of the 1810s generation. These include Jensen's Eroticon, a collection of seven pieces published in 1873, each portraying a figure from ancient Greece, as well as the Scherzo Op. 3 by Reubke, who died prematurely in 1858 and who also wrote a striking Piano Sonata.
